Obituary of Martha Lucci

Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
WESTPORT, CONN Martha Lucci (Muenzen), 76, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Norwalk, Connecticut. Born on January 29, 1949, in Mount Vernon, New York, Martha lived a life filled with creativity, compassion, and community spirit. Martha began her professional journey at Burndy Corporation in Norwalk, Connecticut, where she worked for many years, and where she met her husband and native Westporter Sal Lucci in 1969. Later, she brought her artistic talents to the studios of her late father-in-law Patrick Lucci, working as a creative artist in both Manhattan, New York and Westport, Connecticut. Her work reflected not only her skill but also her deep appreciation for beauty and detail. A longtime resident of Westport, Martha was a familiar and beloved presence at Compo Beach and Longshore. For over 35 years, she could be seen on early morning walks with her close friends Sharon Smith and Susan Goldman. These daily rituals were more than exercise—they were acts of kindness. Whether it was an injured bird or a lost dog, Martha never hesitated to stop and help. Her love for animals was unwavering and extended to every creature she encountered. Martha’s passion for gardening brought vibrant color to every season. She took great pride in cultivating both flower and vegetable gardens that flourished under her care. Her home was a haven of warmth and creativity—filled with hand-knitted pieces, shelves of well-loved books, homemade Christmas cards crafted with care, and the joyful bustle of holiday gatherings. Among her many traditions, none stood out more than the annual Independence Day parties she and Sal hosted for 21 consecutive years. These celebrations became legendary among friends and neighbors who eagerly anticipated them each summer. Her homemade meatballs were the highlight of the festivities—a culinary triumph that surprised many given that she wasn’t Italian. Martha is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Sal; her brothers Cary Muenzen of Danbury and Mark Muenzen with his wife Theresa of Fairfield; as well as several nieces and nephews who cherished her presence in their lives. She is also remembered fondly by her beloved cats Cinnamon and Penny. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Helen Muenzen; her brother Bryant Muenzen; and by three cherished feline companions—Lassie, Peach, and Simon—who brought joy to her life over the years. In keeping with Martha’s lifelong love for animals, donations may be made in her memory to one of the following organizations: Humane Society, ASPCA, Wildlife in Crisis, or Peaceful Valley Donkey Reserve. Martha’s legacy lives on through the gardens she nurtured, the animals she rescued, the friendships she cultivated over decades—and most memorably—in every story shared around a table graced by one of her famous meatballs. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. She will be missed by all her friends and especially her best friend Sal. All Services were private. Entombment will be held privately at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport. The Harding's of Westport directed the arrangements.
