MONROEVILLE, PA
Donald Guyer Sherwood, 94, of Monroeville, passed away on July 7, 2025, at Forbes Hospital. He was born February 7, 1931, in Norwalk, Connecticut, son of the late Silas Burr and Helen (Winn) Sherwood.
Don proudly served his country for three years during the Korean war as a Medical Technician in the Army. He enlisted at the age of 20, and while serving, he earned the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars; One Overseas Bar; Combat Medical Badge; National Defense Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He attained the rank of Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge in April 1954 at Camp Pickett, Virginia.
From there, he used the GI Bill to attend University of Connecticut. He graduated in 1957 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He also earned a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Tech. Don was employed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation and worked at the Monroeville Nuclear Center on the mechanical design of reactor components. Don was also a licensed pilot and avid sailor. He enjoyed skiing, hiking, camping, and canoeing.
Don is preceded in death by three brothers, William A. Sherwood, Philip Sherwood, and Douglas W. Sherwood. He is survived by nieces and nephews.
