Obituary of Evelyn N. Tomlinson

BRIDGEPORT, CONN Evelyn Norman Oliver Tomlinson, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered eternal rest on May 5, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on April 11, 1943, in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Evelyn spent most of her adult life in Norwalk and Bridgeport, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and love. Evelyn was predeceased by her devoted husband, Robert Tomlinson; her son, Carl E. Oliver Sr.; her infant son, Will Oliver; and her grandson, James Oliver Jr. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Terry Lloyd, T.W. Lloyd, and Michael Lloyd. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, James A. Oliver Sr.(wife Chero); her daughter-in-law, Sonja Oliver; and her treasured grandchildren: Tewaunna Brown (husband Amani), Carl E. Oliver Jr. "CJ," Natasha Lopez, Cramer Oliver, and Cameron Oliver. Evelyn was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. She is survived by her dear sisters: Beatrice N. Pinckney (Harry), Frances Norman, Shirley Glover, Kathryn (Reginald) Howard, Barbara Lloyd, and Debbie Lloyd (Clifford) along with a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, treasured friends, and a beloved companion. Evelyn worked faithfully throughout her life and prospered in her role as an Administrative Assistant while employed by NEON and OLIN. She was known for her warm spirit, strong work ethic, and welcoming heart. Evelyn loved to cook, dance, and sing, and she was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Her home and table were always open, and countless family dinners became treasured memories because of her love and hospitality. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome, cared for, and part of the family. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the many prayers, acts of kindness, love, and support shown during this difficult time. Funeral services for Evelyn Norman Oliver Tomlinson will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church on Concord Street in Norwalk. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Committal services will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport, with a repast immediately afterward in the Old Calvary Church. Though her presence will be deeply missed, Evelyn's legacy of love, generosity, strength, and family devotion will live on in all who knew and loved her.
