NORWALK, CONN

Frederick (Fred) Michael Glotzer, loving husband, wonderful father, devoted friend and colleague, passed away January 6th, 2019.

Fred was born in Hartford, CT August 14th, 1931. Best described as a gentle and courageous soul, Fred was the third son of Sara and Isadore Glotzer. Raised in Hartford & West Hartford CT, he eventually moved to Fairfield, CT shortly after his marriage to Rachel Bassin of Springfield, MA in 1963 and untimely settled in Norwalk, CT where he lived for 53 years.

Fred graduated from Mount Hermon School for boys (now Northfield Mount Hermon School) in 1949 and was member of the choir, glee club and played trumpet in the football marching band. A graduate of the University of Connecticut in 1953 where he served as a member and Treasurer of Phi Sigma Delta Fraternity and achieved his MBA in accounting from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1955.

After working for 8 years in public accounting in Hartford, he earned his CPA in 1960 and ultimately joined the CPA firm William H. Parr & Co, LLP of Darien, CT in 1963 becoming a Partner in 1965 and was a loyal leader and mentor there for 53 years.

Fred lead a lifelong commitment to community, as a member of the Kiwanis Club of Darien since 1964 where he served as Secretary, Treasurer and Director and was known as an instrumental part of the organization.  In 1975, he joined Ivanhoe Lodge A.F. & A.M. and the Masonic Club of Darien, serving as Treasurer of the Lodge for 37 years and of the club for 10 years, ultimately achieving the honor of becoming a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.

As a devout congregant and member of Temple Shalom in Norwalk, CT since 1963 where he served as Director, Treasurer, Vice President and President and sang bass in the Temple choir for 20 years.

Fred is predeceased by parents, Sara and Isadore and brothers William B. Glotzer of Glastonbury, CT and Mortimer M. Glotzer of West Harford, CT., and nephews David Glotzer David Greene.

He is survived by his beloved wife Rachel of 55 years and 2 children, Elizabeth (Liz) & husband Todd Lebo and Benjamin (Ben) & wife Kelly, his 3 grandchildren Robert and Lily Lebo, and Ella Glotzer. His nieces and nephews Sheryl and Jim Harriman, Ellen and Joel Stoltz., Helen Glotzer & Ken Martin and their children, Dr Stephen Greene & Suzanne Greene and Kenneth Greene, in-laws Arlene Glotzer of Boston, MA, Janice Glotzer, and Dr. Barbara Greene and Dr. Robert Greene. Fred also is survived by several grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service in Fred’s memory will be held on Thursday January 10, 2019, 12pm at Temple Shalom, 259 Richards Avenue, Norwalk. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport. In lieu of flowers, The Glotzer family is asking that contributions be made to either The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation or
The Masonic Charity Foundation.
