Obituary of Michael David Figueroa

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

WESTON, CONN

Michael David Figueroa (Figgy), beloved son to Ida Szeto and Eddie Figueroa peacefully passed away in his sleep on August 23, 2019.  He loved his bedroom and what a wonderful place to transition on to his next passage as he sails into the skies searching for his next food adventure. Michael was the most wonderful son; Ida and Eddie were blessed to have him for 27 plus years. Mary Figueroa, Michael’s stepmother, was also blessed to have him in her life for 21 years.

Michael was the most incredible older brother to Kayleigh Levene and Nicholas Figueroa; they will forever treasure the love, warmth, guidance and support he provided. They could not have had a better role-model. Each of them miss him terribly but will remember his immense positivity by pursuing his motto: “Dream large. Live larger.”

Michael’s aunts and uncles were touched by him each day and he appreciated all of the love and guidance each of them provided to him:  Mei and Harvey Lefkowitz, Marjorie Szeto, Michael Szeto, Cathy Figueroa, David and Diana Figueroa.  His cousins, Jenine Figueroa and Pedro Figueroa, have fond memories of Michael’s passion for life, food, and happiness.

Michael’s grandmothers, Lai Szeto (“Paw Paw”), Carmen Figueroa (“Ita”) and June Sokoli will miss his contagious laugh and how he thoroughly enjoyed their cooking!  His favorite meals included Pepper Steak from Paw Paw, Soupon from Ita and Seafood Scallops from June!  No one loved and appreciated their cooking more than Michael.

Michael was an extremely loyal person to those he loved.  His friendships over the years have created ‘brother/sister-like’ bonds with Ryan Lustberg, Patrick Fontaine, Alec Joseph, Andrew Bryon, James Jepsen, Lydia Sandolo, Elizabeth (Biz) Harrigan, Marie Gargiulo, Danielle Fontaine and Kim Bell, just to name a few.  He had a tremendous circle of friends who shared numerous memories from sports, parties, trips, cook outs, etc.

As a professional after college, Michael’s dream was to have his own restaurant or food truck.  While working at Arezzo in Westport, he realized he needed capital in order to fulfill his professional dream. He branched out to become a financial advisor for Charter Oak Financial under the wings of Jason Castaldi and Dan Zuccarini.  Michael could not have been happier working with Jason and Dan.

Although Michael’s life was cut short, his time here was filled with nothing but love, care, laughter, loyalty, and enthusiasm. He was larger than life and will be missed immensely. He will never be forgotten and will forever be in our hearts.

A ‘Tribute to Michael’s Life’ will be held at Hoyt-Cognetta/Raymond Funeral Home, 5 East Wall Street, In Historic Norwalk, CT on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Entombment will be held here at Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport at the convenience of the family.
