STRATFORD, CONN John A. Kandalaft, age 81, of Stratford, beloved husband of Hiyam S. Kandalaft, passed away peacefully in his home on November 28, 2022. John was born in Cairo, Egypt on September 27, 1941, to the late George and Marie Kandalaft, and had been a longtime area resident. He was an artist, designer, and the retired Chairman of the Interior Design Department at the University of Bridgeport. He studied at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Rouen and received his master's in architecture from the University of Montreal. As an artist, known as Jean Alexandre, he had a studio in New Haven and was known for his abstract oil paintings. Survivors, in addition to his beloved wife of more than 40 years, include his devoted sons, Alexander A. Kandalaft, and his wife Malika of Boston, MA, and Michael A. Kandalaft, and his wife Jennifer of Fairfield, as well as four cherished grandchildren, Elias, Maia, Philip, and Isabelle, sister-in-law, Yacout Kandalaft of Montreal, Canada, and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Nicholas Kandalaft of Montreal, Canada. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 1st meeting directly at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 5458 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery, Westport. The Adzima Funeral Home of Stratford has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
