NORTH STAMFORD, CONN Theoharris Christou, lovingly remembered as “Christo,” a beloved husband and father, and a visionary in the world of hairdressing, passed away on October 19, 2023, surrounded by the love and support of his wife, Audrey Christou, and family, after a courageous and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 54-years-old. Christo was born on December 19, 1968, in Anayia, Cyprus, to Demetris and Despina Christou. He grew up with an ever-present curiosity and a spirit for adventure. From a young age, he was drawn to his uncle’s barbershop, where the seeds of a global career as a celebrity hairstylist were sown. Upon leaving high school, Christo answered the call to serve his country with honor, dedicating two years as a member of the Cypriot National Guard. While still barely out of his teens, Christo embarked on his journey to the US, and it was there that he discovered his true passion. Over the years, Christo honed his craft, specializing in curly hair; redefining the industry with his innovative methods and unmatched expertise. He built an empire of ethically tested and organic hair products, hair-cutting techniques, and the education of his trademark cut; the “Diametrix” which earned him the title “King of Curls.” His dedication to empowering clients by enhancing their natural beauty made him an icon in the industry. He was often quoted saying, “hair is your number one accessory” and accordingly became a celebrity stylist known to lead and deliver exceptional styles for a multitude of runways, NYFW, magazine covers, and TV shows for more than a decade. From features in the New York Times to Vanity Fair and a myriad of every major publication in between, Christo lived a life of impact and left his mark in this world. His resilience and charisma brought together many, turning strangers into family everywhere he went. His warm smile, infectious laughter, and kind-hearted nature endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a unique ability to make people feel at ease, and his clients often regarded their time in his chair as not just a beauty treatment, but as an opportunity to connect with a dear friend. In addition to his remarkable career, Christo had a profound love for sports. A soccer and tennis enthusiast, he was a force to be reckoned with on both the tennis court and the soccer field, where his nimble footwork was as evident there as it was on the dancefloor. He competed with genuine sportsmanship and shared his athletic passion with family and friends, creating many a cherished memory. Christo was a loving husband and family man, benevolent father, accomplished businessman, talented hairdresser, dynamic chef, and an animal lover. He is survived by his devoted wife, Audrey Christou; his talented daughter, Alexia Christou (23), from Astoria, Queens; and their fur children, London (10), and Milan (3). He is also survived by his mother, Despina Christou (86); his sister, Maria Christou (49); and brother, Christos Christou (57); nephew, Dimitrianos (15); niece; Nefeli (18); niece and goddaughter; Despina (25). His memory will be eternally preserved in the hearts of his family, friends, his clients, and the lives that he transformed through his extraordinary talents. Calling hours will be held at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home at 31 Arch St., Greenwich, October 26, 2023 from 9am-12pm, where friends and loved ones will gather to pay their respects, followed by burial in the Willowbrook cemetery at 395 Main St., Westport, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the https://letswinpc.org/in-memory-of-theoharris-christou/ in Christo’s memory, to support research and efforts to find a cure for this devastating disease. Christo leaves behind a legacy of exceptional artistry and a commitment to enriching the lives of those he touched. The world has lost a true artist, but his spirit will continue to inspire all those who seek to celebrate their individuality, natural beauty, and the pursuit of perfection, just as he did.
