Obituary of Olivia P. Gill

WESTPORT, CONN Olivia Prouty Gill, a longtime Westport resident, passed away peacefully on March 5th at the age of 96. Olivia was born in 1927 in Boston Massachusetts to George and Nathalie Prouty. Olivia grew up in Spencer Massachusetts and attended Kendall Hall Girls preparatory school, graduating in 1945, where she excelled in the performing arts. Upon graduation she was a swimmer in a traveling water ballet and diving show, touring around the country. She was also an avid skier and enjoyed all the cold weather winter sports. In 1951 she was hired as a Stewardess for American Airlines where she met her future husband, pilot Robert Gill. They married in 1953 and started a family in Huntington Long Island. In 1963 the Gill family found a home in the Compo Beach neighborhood where they resided for the next 60 years. In those years, besides being a dedicated mother of 5 children, she enjoyed collecting antiques and gardening, skiing in Vermont, and traveling the world over by air or sea. She was a faithful member of the Greens Farms Congregational church and member of the Westport Women Gardening Club. Olivia is preceded in death by her parents and brother George (Jed), her husband Robert and her eldest son Gary. She is survived by her children, Robert Gill of Hawaii, Jeffrey (Dana) Gill of Illinois, Steven (Sally) Gill of Pennsylvania , Kirsten (Steve) Bartie of Westport, 10 grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services will be held at 12pm on March 16th at Harding Funeral Home, Westport Connecticut. Interment was held on March 18, 2024 at NOON in Willowbrook Cemetery, 395 Main Street, Westport.
