WESTPORT, CONN Burton Ira Orland, 87, of Westport, CT, passed away at home unexpectedly on Sunday, May 5th. Burt was born in the Bronx to Dorothy (neé Rosenthal) and Maxwell Wendell Orland. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Columbia University. Burt began his career in retail pharmacy, and for 17 years, was the Director of Pharmacy and Strategic Planning at the Fallon Clinic in Worcester, MA. He then served in executive roles in various managed care organizations including New York Life, Harvard Pilgrim, and United Healthcare. He was a pioneer in the managed care pharmacy industry and nationally recognized for his contributions. Burt was an avid and astute fan of professional sports, particularly his beloved New York Rangers. He loved theatrical and musical performances and was a World War II history buff. He was a Mason and lifetime member of Level Lodge in Worcester, MA as well as a member of the Shriners. He was known by all for his kind, caring, selfless personality and especially for his infectious humor. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word. His favorite childhood memories were days spent at Camp Powhatan in Otisville, ME where he won “Camper of the Year.” More than all his professional accomplishments, he valued and cherished his family who adored him beyond words. Burt was the loving husband of almost 45 years of Carole (neé Topol); proud father of Wendy and Bill Trotta of Paxton, MA; Michael of Studio City, CA; David and Sandy of Manhasset Hills, NY; Stefani and Mark Silverstein of Westport, CT; Zachary Maxwell of Westport, CT; adoring grandfather of Allie and Andrew Trotta, Sabrina Malchodi, Tanya Striffler, Jared and Jason Orland, Cyrus and Chloe Silverstein. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 7th at 1pm at Temple Israel, 14 Coleytown Road, Westport. Interment will follow at Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport. Shiva will be observed at the home of Stefani and Mark Silverstein on Tuesday, May 7th and Wednesday May 8th at 5:30pm with a minyan at 6pm; Thursday, May 9th at 6:30pm; Friday, May 10th from 1-5pm; Saturday, May 11th at 6:30pm; to join a livestream of the services, visit www.tiwestport.org/livestream. The family extends its deepest gratitude to Carline Smith and Dr. Warren Steinberg for their kind and compassionate care.
