Obituary of Rosemary F. Englander

SUWANEE, GA Rosemary Englander, age 101, formerly of Westport, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Dec. 1, 2022. Rosemary was born on April 23, 1921, to John and Marion Murphy of Long Island, N.Y. She had three brothers, the late John, the late Robert and the late Gerard. In the 1940s, Rosemary moved to Manhattan, N.Y., where she met the late, great Richard A Englander. They were married in 1949 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in N.Y.C. and lived in Greenwich Village, N.Y. Rosemary was employed at Raymond Loewy & Associates, an industrial design firm, and also worked as a model. In the 1950s, the couple moved to Westport, where they raised three daughters, all graduates of Staples High School. Rosemary loved Westport. She had a great passion for the arts, as well as for horses. She was an avid gardener, producing exquisite gardens in her backyard on Hermit Lane. Her kind, beautiful and gracious spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughters, Kim Englander Leonard of Kent, Tracie Englander of San Francisco, Calif., and Kelly Englander Gilmartin of Suwanee, Ga., and three grandchildren, Nicole Gilmartin Grzymala (Logan) of Atlanta, Ga., and Hayley Leonard and James Leonard of Kent. A memorial service was held Dec. 8 in Duluth, Ga. Entombment will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11:00AM Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport. “Always a Westporter.” If you wish, a perennial flower could be planted in Rosemary’s memory.
